How To Be Popular In High School

In high school, teenagers are drifted into a whole new world. This is the period of growth into adulthood and at this stage, boys and girls begin to realise a lot of things and socialization is one of them. However, it might, at times, seem a little difficult to navigate through that social world in high school. But it's okay, you don't have to beat yourself up or let yourself down. Just keep in mind that popularity is a gradual process and with more effort and determination, you can be that popular boy or girl. Here are a few tips to help you achieve this goal.

• Be Nice

You might not know this but being genuinely nice would actually take you miles away to popularity. Don't act  mean or dark because you think it's cool, in reality, it's a turn off. Learn to say hello and smile at people you know and do not know; nobody likes frustrated people and a smiley face would simply create the impression that you're an easily approachable person(the smile should not be too aggressive and fake). Don't act like you're bigger or better than people who are dubbed "unpopular". If they are fun and you enjoy their company, then why the hold back? Hang out with them. That way you're expanding your list of friends.

Be polite and kind and even in bad moods, be friendly. But overdo it, or they'll just take it for granted and start using you.

• Have Confidence, Don't Fake

You don't have to fake it. There's nothing fun about being popular for something you're not. People would definitely notice this and it'll only make things more difficult. You don't have to live in a charade to get friends or popularity, instead learn to appreciate and have confidence in who you are and you'll surely attract the kind of interesting people you wish for.

• Extracurricular Activities

What are you drawn to? Football, basketball, drama club? Whichever it is, joining extracurricular activities is a straight up ticket to your popularity goal. You'll get to meet a variety of new friends—friends that share your interests. Isn't that great? Not only does extracurriculars help you connect with like minded people, it can also help you discover passion, new hobbies and maybe inspire you on a career path.

Support And Help Others

Respect is reciprocal. The same rule is applicable here. If you want to be loved and appreciated, then you should try doing the same for people around. Don't make it all about yourself, let it be about other people as well. Like when someone does something worth cheering or congratulating, don't hesitate to do so. If you are a good student and a certain homework seems difficult for your classmates, then render whatever assistance you have. Don't act like you know everything, ask for help from a friend or classmate when you need it, it doesn't make you any less.

• Face Your Studies

You do not have to pursue popularity and neglect studies. Studies is way important than your social status. You can even achieve both if you have strong focus and determination. Keep in mind that you can't stay in high school forever hence, you have to work hard for the journey that still lays ahead.

More Tips

Don't try too hard. This means that you shouldn't be obsessed with upping your social game and try to get everyone to like you. Note: not everyone can like you, it's basically impossible.

Increase your confidence and self esteem—people like strong personality.

Be open to meeting new people: this doesn't mean you should walk up to random people to interact it just means you shouldn't be shy to start a conversation with someone new when there's an opportunity.

Be nice to people smaller than you.

Don't tell lies. No matter how hard or long you try to keep it, it'll surely come back and get you.
